India, Pak should resume peace process: JK CPI(M)
Srinagar, September 30, 2009: Jammu and Kashmir CPI(M) on Wednesday said both India and Pakistan should resume the peace process stalled after the Mumbai attacks and resolve all outstanding issues.
"The peace process should not be allowed to go on the back burner because of isolated incidents of violence," state secretary of CPI (M) MY Tarigami said at a conference of Kisan tehrik at Anantnag, 55 km from Srinagar.
Tarigami said the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially farmers are worst hit by Indo-Pak hostility and turmoil in the state.
He also alleged that benefits of both Central and state schemes have not reached farmers due to faulty implementation.
JK govt not recognising Rukhsana's bravery: Gujjars
Jammu, Oct 1: Gujjars in Jammu and Kashmir today alleged that the state government has not recognised rare and extraordinary courage shown by the young girl from their community who killed a top Lashker-e-Toiba militant in Rajouri district recently.
The Gujjar leaders slammed the government for giving a cash reward of only Rs 5,000 to Rukhsana, saying it is a humiliation for their tribe.
"It is shocking that neither Chief Minister Omar Abdullah nor his cabinet colleagues recognised the unmatched, rare and extraordinary courage and bravery shown by 22-year-old Rukhsana," Jammu and Kashmir Gujjars United Front (JKGUF) chief Mohammad Anwar Chowdhary and J&K Gujjar Bakerwal Joint Forum (JKGBJF) head Haji Shamsher Ali Boken told reporters here.
Rukhsana, along with her sibling, overpowered a LeT terrorist, snatched his rifle and fired at him, killing him on the spot.

Jammu, Oct 1: Hailing the landmark decision of Centre for opening two Central Universities in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for higher education Abdul Gani Malik today said this will boost the educational set up in the state.
"We are very happy over the decision and hail it. It is a landmark decision of Central government. This will boost the educational set up in the state", Malik said while interacting with the students here.
The Minister said education sector has been accorded priority by the government and setting up of Central universities is one such major step in this direction which will improve the education scenario in the state in addition to providing better employment avenues to the local population.
He said the major thrust would be on strengthening infrastructure in existing institutions.
